Archive for February, 2011

Last Saturday I headed over to Rite Aid…
I was able to pick up 9 bottles of Gain dish detergent for FREE…
I think I’ll set these aside for my Christmas 2011 Gift Baskets…

Last week? Or the week before there was a “Try Me Free Offer” in the coupon inserts…
I heart “try me free” offers… I don’t even care what it is they want me to try… If I can make a little moolah off it… I’ll toss it in the cart.

I had to use my $5 Up Rewards (from last week) PLUS $5.38 to buy the above…

I filled out the “Try Me Free” offer and dropped it in the mail…
I will receive a $4.99 rebate check (in 6-8 weeks) plus I earned $7 in Up Rewards…

So After I factored in my rebate (and the stamp)

$23.07 (weekly budget)
-5.38 Out of pocket
————————–
$17.69
+$4.55 ($4.99 rebate less .44 cent stamp)
—————————————–
I was left with $22.24 for the rest of the week
and $7 in Up Rewards to spend.

Sunday was another profitable shopping trip at Rite Aid…

After I took into account my rebates…
I paid .28 cents for the above…
And was left with $22 in Up Rewards

And left with $21.96 to spend for the rest of the week.

On another trip to Rite Aid on Monday I picked up milk and cookies
My total was $1.27 after I used $22 in Up Rewards…

I earned another $6 in Up Rewards to use on my next Rite Aid transaction.

Free Grapes from Fred Meyer thanks to the $2.00 cell fire credit I scored last week…

I was also able to apply $1.05 from my Fred Meyer Quarterly rebate as well…

Leaving me with .15 cents left on my rebate card.

FREE

$6.98

An unexpected and very last minute $46.51 trip to Costco drained my remaining $13.71 for this week plus…

Plus I had to empty Mr. Piggy’s belly of the $13.11 to help cover the overpriced food I picked up at Costco for Monkey Boy and The Handsome Husband to eat while The Girl and I jetted off to London for 4 days (1 1/2 days traveling * 2 1/2 days sight seeing).

But that still wasn’t enough…

$46.51 Costco
-$13.71 left in my weekly budget
-$13.11 Mr Piggy (from the previous weeks)
——————————————————-
$19.69 in the hole

So I “borrowed” $19.69 from this weeks budget (week #9) leaving me with $3.38 and $6 in Up Rewards for week #9. Since it’s Monday… and I only have 5 days to go… I should be fine. We have plenty of bread, veggies and I have Up Rewards I can use for milk… So I’ll manage.

(the fridge all stocked up for the boys… an hour before we left)

Luckily it snowed…

And the Boys stayed home, slept in, and played video games while were gone…
What can I say… they had their dream vacation… and we had ours.

And if you are wondering…
Hey Mavis… what about all the food you bought/ate while on vacation?

Well… according to the original rules…

Food bought while on vacation does not count…

Because technically… the money comes from the “vacation fund”.

So there you have it.

That was week #8 of 52

What did you splurge on this week?

Where in The World Is Mavis… Prize #2

The Girl and I are ready to come home…

I’m tired of spending money… and am suffering from serious coupon withdrawals 🙂

Yesterday…
We had a 6 hour layover @ JFK Airport…
And we had no intention of hanging out in the terminals for that long…

So we caught a cab and headed downtown…
(I think Manhattan?)

We ate delicious New York Style thin crust pizza @ Patsy’s

And made a trip to Dylan’s Candy Bar

The Girl had her eye on The World’s Largest Gummy Bear…
@ $40 a bear… we passed…

But we did pick up 3 delicious Dylan’s Candy Bar lolly pops for one of you.

Simply leave a comment below with your name or something to identify yourself and we will pick one lucky winner later today.

It’s good to be home!

Just a quick heads up…

This may or may not happen…

But if it does… I just want you to be prepared.

We have a 6 hour layover in

And if the stars align…

There will be a Where In The World Is Mavis? Round 2

If so… it will be a short and sweet contest and you can expect a giveaway post early Sunday Morning…

If not…

I’ll see you back here on Monday.

Have a great weekend…

Mavis

It’s a good thing the Handsome Husband gets up everyday to go to work and support his family… Because if I was in charge of bringing home the bacon…we’d be living in a tent… in the woods… eating free pork n beans warmed by a small camp fire and bathing in Puget sound. Mostly because I’m such a smart arse and would get myself fired from any employer brave enough to hire me in the first place. Taking orders, following directions and pretty much being anything other than snarky… are not my strong suits… Being head strong and flying by the seat of my pants… now there’s something I’m good at.

What’s my point?

I don’t have one…

I just want to say:

Thank you… to my dear Handsome Husband.

The girl and I are having a Wicked good time!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Oh… and my dearest HH…

You may want to head back to work asap.

I didn’t use a coupon for the Theater Tickets 🙂

Actually…

The Girl and I decided on 2 winners.

Michelle was spot on!

She gave the answers I was looking for:

London, Hyde Park, Serpentine Lake, The Boat House

————————–

Then I noticed people were saying The Serpentine Boat House…

I was like Huh? Where did they come up with that name?
So I googled it (of course)… and noticed that on The Boat House website they refer to it as The Serpentine Boat House as well… Those British are sneaky little buggers aren’t they?

So I am also choosing Me!

Congratulations!!!!

And thanks to all of you who played along…

We had a great time incorporating candid photo’s of our trip into the posts.

Michelle & Me! Please email your shipping address to mavisisarockstar (at) yahoo.com and I will ship off your packages next week!

Cherrio!

Where In The World Is Mavis???

Breakfast was lovely…

And so was lunch…

But my favorite part of this crazy and spontaneous trip… (so far)

Was this afternoon.

If you ever come to this city…

I highly recommend paying 7 pounds…

And renting a paddle boat…

From here…

Where are we?

What city?

What park?

What body of water?

Where did we rent the boat?

Good Luck!
