I think it’s going to work…

I think The Girl Who Thinks She’s A Bird and I are actually going to be successful at this whole zebra pinata thing… although lately I’ve been secretly tempted to turn it into a unicorn… Charlie the Unicorn that is… I know the teenagers would love beating Charlie the Unicorn to smithereens with a stick… and then scurrying about for all the magical treats inside…but Charlie is gray… boring old grey… and after all this hard work… I don’t want no stinkin grey pinata…

I want our pinata to have a little flair…

I mean really… if they’re gonna pulverize this thing… I at least I want him to look good… I want Mr. Zebra Pinatas life to at least have had a little joy…

********

As I was putting another layer on Mr. Zebra tonight I was thinking…

I was thinking about how when I started this blog all I wanted to talk about (basically) was growing food… don’t get me wrong… I’m still growing food… it’s just that once you understand how to do something… and are able to do it well… you move on to the next great thing… I LOVE growing food… and I’m going to continue to grow food… but I need more… I need to be busy…because really… if it wasn’t for OCD…where would I be?

**********

More of what? I don’t know… I have a VERY short attention span… and tend to take on weird projects like walking a marathon…becoming addicted to coupon crack… and as of late… pinata making… If I had to get up and go to work everyday and do the same job over and over and over again… I’d lose my mind… Yes indeedy I would.

*******

Bottom Line:

I’m looking for a new gig once this pinata thing ends…

Any suggestions?

Well… he did it again…

The handsome husband made dinner…

For the THIRD Sunday in a row…

This week:
Beef medallions, mashed potatoes and cesar salad…
It was Delish!

In other news…
We spotted a Robin’s nest…
Monkey Boy told me there are two more eggs in the nest…
I LOVE baby birds…
I hope they make it…

Oh… and that zebra pinata?
It now has legs…

It’s coming along nicely…
I think I’ll add the other two legs this weekend…

Other than that…
my house is a total wreck…
and I don’t even care…

I just received a call from Leopard Girl that our sister’s water just broke…
which means I have exactly 24 hours to finish her baby quilt…
Because a baby simply cannot come home from the hospital without it’s baby quilt!

Oh well… it looks like I’ll be pulling an all nighter…

Thank goodness the cookies are already baked for this weeks track meet!

Failure Is NOT An Option

Things are not going as planned on the chicken front…

Sure I had read online about how you shouldn’t introduce older chickens to baby chicks…
and how the older birds will be mean and aggressive towards the little guys (girls)… But NO… that didn’t stop me…

The new Chicken Mc Mansion should be arriving in about 2 weeks…

And if I can’t get these two sets of birds to play nice with each other…

SOON…

Someone is going to get eaten…

Do you HEAR ME BIG CHICKENS???

Play Nice…

Or else!

Lawn & Garden…

The weather this weekend was PERFECT…
So off I went to Home Depot to purchase some new garden shears…
for the raspberry patch…

While I was there I also picked up a few box woods to replace the 6 stunted ones in our front border…
For some reason they are not growing as quickly as the others we installed a few years ago…

I heart boxwood borders…
When we built this house it was the one and only landscape idea I had…
Well… besides I wanted the house to have a “cottage like” feel to it…
By “cottage like feel” I suppose I meant I wanted it to look a little dreamy…

The wisteria (over the gate) is starting to come back to life…
See that big rock in the middle of the photo?
I have purple cone flowers planted there…
They bloom around mid August…

This is Henry…
He is out Greeter Gnome…

Instead of spending big bucks on moss to line my flower baskets…
I use spent daffodil stems…
Works like a charm…

The Raspberry Patch…
was a mess… (again)
I couldn’t take it any longer…

I came to the conclusion that it was now or never…
If I didn’t sacrifice a few (hundred!) blossoms (berries!)
I might not be able to pick any at all…
After all… one does need to get to the berries to pick them…

I spy with my little eye…
the handsome husband…
mowing…
AGAIN!!

He is now up to mowing 2 times a week…
In the height of summer this man will mow 3 count ’em 3 times a week…
I used to think he was a little weird…
but almost all of the other neighbor men mow this often too…
I think there is something in the water here…
I honestly do not think it is normal to mow your lawn 2-3 times a week…

I am also predicting… that by the end of summer…
My husband will have spent more of fertilizer than I have on garden seeds/supplies…

I think the chickens were a little upset that I messed with their raspberry patch…
It has become their favorite hiding spot these last few months…

Oh well…
You simply cannot please everybody…

It’s a disease… I tell ya…

In other Lawn & Garden news…
I discovered I planted green arrow (shelling) peas and not sugar snap peas like I had thought…
I know this because they are starting to bloom… and they are only 3 feet tall…
Oops!

Current View from the garden gate…

Summer… it’s almost here… can you believe it?

Mavis Attempts To Make A Zebra Pinata…

Monkey Boy and the Girl who thinks she’s a bird
are planning an end of the year party…

And what’s a party without a pinata?

I don’t care if you are 102…
You HAVE TO HAVE a pinata!

And lucky for me…

They picked a SUPER EASY one for me to make…

All I can say is wish me luck people…

I’m gonna need it.

Here’s what it’s suppose to look like when it’s finished!

It seems like everything in the garden is in a holding pattern…
The raspberries are waiting to burst open…

The cucumber seeds are beginning to sprout…

I’m not sure which I like better… chives as food… or their flowers to look at…
Something about their bright purple blooms screams happiness…

The baby chicks are no longer chicks… and are in that awkward teenage stage…
and I am waiting patiently for their new home to arrive…

And the beets… I can almost taste them…

I can hardly stand it…

Does anyone have a time machine so we can fast forward 60 days?

The Handsome Husband made mini burgers for Sunday dinner…
I ate two of them… Monkey Boy ate 4…

I picked up a few crusty cans in a parking lot…

And got some free coupon crack in the mail…

Mr. Hot Air blew me up some giant balloons for an upcoming project…

I made some spicy chicken stir fry…

… and drank tea from a “coffee” cup…

I made another 250 cookies…

And dreamed about a Bee Haus

Yep, it’s been a busy week!
